The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
